4.00pm - Welcoming: Arrive at Whakarewarewa and meet your Guide. Participate in the whakatau (welcome). Opportunity to perform our traditional Maori greeting (hongi). and receive an explanation on the Whakatau process
4.15pm - TAHI – Protecting Our Land (Guided Tour): Learn why this area is so important and see how the local people still utilise the hot pools & steam for daily living. Learn about the native plants that grow within the village and how the Rotorua city utilised our natural resources. See corn and eggs being cooked in the natural hot spring and enjoy your egg whilst sitting on our thermally heated floor.
5.15pm - RUA – Perpetuating Our Customs (Marae Protocols): Here you will learn about the importance of the Marae and the customs & protocols we follow. The roles of men, women & children.
5.45pm - Free Time: Free time to relax and freshen up.
6.00pm DINNER: Your dinner has been cooked within the natural hot steam & pools. Assist with clearing away your tables and dishes. See menu below
7.00pm - TORU – Promoting Our Arts (Performance): Enjoy members from our tribe perform local songs and dance. Opportunity to take photos and ask group members questions. Learn about performing arts and how it has evolved over time. Girls will learn about poi and boys will learn about the Haka. Opportunity to perform for each other.
8.00pm - WHA – Story Telling & Reflection: Learn about local legends. Opportunity to ask Hosts questions.
9.00pm - Prepare for bed: Free time to relax or shower.
9.30 - Lights out
Second day experience
6.45am - Wake up: Tidy up Marae. An opportunity to apply what you learnt in Activity Rua. Shower and pack bags
7.30am - Breakfast: Assist with clearing away your tables and dishes.
8.30am - RIMA- Perpetuating Our Crafts (Weaving): Here you will learn about the importance of weaving. Opportunity to create your own treasure out of flax as well as ask our local expert questions.
9.00am - Farewell: Be farewelled by Host and depart Whakarewarewa
